The race leader reported a damaged rudder bearing early this morning, roughly 300 nautical miles south of the Cape Verde Islands. In a short radio message the skipper said the boat was “safe and sailing”, and that a spare bearing was on board.

Race direction confirmed the boat had slowed to around eight knots. The two nearest rivals are within 60 miles and gaining.
